Current studies indicate that one half of all the students who qualify for special education are classified as having a learning disability (LD) (6–7%). Nevertheless, many more people— perhaps as many as 15–20% of the population as a whole—have some of the symptoms of dyslexia, including slow or inaccurate reading, poor spelling, poor writing, or mixing up similar words".

Stuttering is a genetically-influenced condition, meaning that it arises from a complex interaction involving childhood development, particularly language skills and motor skills, as well as the temperament of the child. Stuttering runs in some families and affects more men than women.

  • According to the Stuttering foundation of America: About 5% of all children go through a period of stuttering that lasts six months or more. Three-quarters of those who begin to stutter will recover by late childhood, leaving about 1% of the population with a long-term problem. Stuttering affects four times as many males as females.
